Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Tonite Gonzalez-Collins is an Mexican American journalist. She is the host of SportsNation and is a SportsCenter anchor. She joined ESPN as a news anchor in 2016. She is the daughter of Maria Antonieta Collins, a journalist on television. Antonietta Collins is bilingual and has been since the age of nine. Her ability in this area has helped her get her first position at Univision, Miami. She was able to work with national producers on programs such as Nuestra Belleza Latina Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud Primer Impacto. Then she was promoted to an reporter at CBS St. Petersburg. CBS St. Petersburg affiliate following that. She moved in 2009 from Rio Grande Valley, Texas for work as an anchor for the newscast of The Spanish channel KNVO TV 48 Univision and Fox2 News. Reporting on stories on drug trafficking and immigration from both sides of the Mexico-Texas border, she was an anchor on the Spanish channel KNVO TV 48 from 5 pm. She was as a reporter for news with a news anchor in English until 9pm, then a news anchor for 10 pm, and then returned on the Spanish channel. Also, she was a substitute for weather anchors, sports anchors and forecasters. Then she anchor and wrote on Univision's Dallas affiliate Deportes 23 where she was assigned more responsibility. She did pieces on the Major League Baseball's ALDS ALCS and World Series the Dallas Cowboys the NBA postseason as well as the Finals FC Dallas and the Dallas Stars. Additionally, she was the producer of the local Univision 23 sports program Accion Deportiva Extra on which she also served as anchor. She worked as the sports anchor of Despierta America Deportes morning show. She worked in the same job on Primer Impacto on UniMas Network and Contacto Deportivo for its magazine show. Antonietta Collins was a native of Veracruz, Mexico. Her birth date was November 22nd, 1985 in Mexico City. Her older sister is also hers. The family moved into Miami in 1992, after having left Mexico. Her parents divorced within a short time and in 1995, she married an naval designer by the name of Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo passed away in 2006 from kidney cancer. While on a vacation Antonietta was staying at the house of her sister Canton Ohio. Her older Collins brother had recently been offered an offer to work. Antonietta was a senior in high school but she was clear about the career she wanted to pursue. While deciding if Mount Union is the right choice for her Antonietta visited the school. As it turned out she was a fan of the university and that they had the degree she was searching for. She finished school and attended the university with an undergraduate major in media studies. Professor Mark Bergmann, who managed WRMU FM and was a part of the class, established a lasting relationship with the student. It was he who inspired her confidence and whose passion for Journalism deeply touched her. She was determined to exceed his expectations and never let him down.
